After a five-year career with the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho and Colorado, William Wegert relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia, in 1984, where he enrolled in what was then called Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He also began working in admissions and recruiting at Liberty University and soon took over international admissions. At the time, it was the only specialized service for a small population of international students. Over his four-decade career at the university, he served as Director of Graduate Admissions, Director of International Admissions, and, finally, Dean of International Student Programs. As dean, he led a team of thirteen staff responsible for recruitment, admissions, orientation, and retention of nearly 1,000 international students. He oversaw the development of the C. Daniel Kim International Student Center, which now serves as the focal point on campus, helping international students from over 60 countries succeed. He has traveled to 20 countries, recruiting students, speaking to schools, educators, and parents, and promoting the life-changing educational opportunities at Liberty University, which trains Champions for Christ. He is the father of eight homeschooled adult children, the husband of one for the past 47 years, and enjoys hiking and backpacking with Marilou and helping his children and grandchildren achieve their life goals.
